Only 44 days after Liz Truss, a former member of the Conservative party, announced she would be stepping down as prime minister of Britain, Rishi Sunak, a former Chancellor of the Exchequer, is poised to take over as the country’s new leader.

The son of Indian immigrants, the 42-year-old lawmaker is one of Westminster’s wealthiest representatives and will serve as the nation’s first leader of color. King Charles, the newly installed head of state of Britain, will also urge the ex-banker to form a cabinet after he defeated rivals Penny Mordaunt and Boris Johnson.

In a statement after withdrawing from the contest due to lack of support, Mordaunt said, “This decision is a historic one and illustrates, once again, the diversity and skill of our party.” “Rishi has my complete backing,”

Sunak was chosen to succeed Truss by Conservative Party lawmakers, becoming the country’s third prime minister in less than two months with the responsibility of bringing stability to a nation burdened by years of political and economic unrest.

The 1922 Committee’s chairman, Sir Graham Brady, declared Sunak as the only “legitimate” candidate for the position of Conservative Party leader and prime minister when the results of the leadership contest were announced.

Oxford University degree, he developed the effective furlough program while serving as Finance Minister under Boris Johnson, and first gained widespread prominence just as the COVID-19 outbreak struck Britain.

While attending Stanford University, Sunak met Akshata Murthy, whose father is Indian business magnate N. R. Narayana Murthy, the creator of outsourcing behemoth Infosys Ltd. Only once Liz Truss formally submits her resignation to King Charles will Sunak be given the opportunity to establish a cabinet.
