The shortest tenure of any British leader is that of Prime Minister Liz Truss (45 days).
The numerous policy changes made by Truss’s cabinet significantly reduced her power and contributed to the British economic crisis that led to her resignation.

She made the statement on Thursday, which was her 45th day in office.

Truss declared outside Downing Street that she would step down as party leader once a replacement was chosen because she had broken the pledge she made to voters.

The second-shortest-serving prime minister is George Canning, who held the position for 119 days until passing away suddenly in 1827.
