Sulley Muntari Reveals Why He Left Accra Hearts Of Oak.

In a recent interview, Sulley Muntari explained why he decided not to sign a contract extension with the Phobians after helping Accra Hearts of Oak win the FA Cup and advance to the 2022–2023 CAF Confederations Cup.
Hearts’ six-month contract was cancelled after unsuccessful attempts to renew it. The former AC Milan and Inter Milan star has at last explained why he chose not to extend his contract with Hearts.

He gave suggestions for how to improve the team for their African campaign, but they were ineffective, he claimed. He continued by saying that he decided to leave the team because he never wanted to damage his reputation.

In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, he expressed this idea.

“Yeah, I spoke to several board members and had a few conversations with them (Kotoko) because I wanted to assist them in Africa. However, I was at that time a member of Hearts of Oak. I was attempting to put together a very, very strong team with them as my contract was about to expire.

I didn’t want to participate in the African campaign and bring shame to myself. You get ready for that if you get into the CAF Champions League, any other CAF competition, or even Europe. You add some quality players to the team you qualified with, strengthening it.

So I was attempting to put up a team with Hearts, but management had other plans. And even though you tell people to do things, you don’t push them to do them if they don’t want to. The reality is, I didn’t want to expose myself to shame.

And I’m aware that I’ve put a lot of effort into my football career; thus, I wouldn’t come here and let a few minor issues to undo all I’ve worked so hard for. No, I won’t do it. Thus, I was discussing the same (issue) with Kotoko,” he continued.

He stressed that his attempt to join Kotoko was not motivated by Hearts’ rejection of his model recommendations.

“I wanted to go to Kotoko, but not because Hearts didn’t do as I suggested, no. However, even in the second level, I would adopt the same mindset in order to develop a potent team. Because once you have a great squad, you can sell two or three players the following year to raise money and start building the team again. That’s how the majority of the European teams we played operate.
