You can’t keep telling us there’s no money – Bagbin tells Ofori Atta in the face

Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament in the person of Alban Bagbin says the house lacks funds for most programs.
He remarked on May 26 that Parliament will have some last-year arrears.

He said things were difficult.

“What many of you don’t realize is that we don’t have any releases from the Ministry of Finance to run Parliament,” he stated.

It’s not easy to run Parliament on last year’s arrears. Sometimes I deny your requests to accomplish things. We can’t fund your request, not because I love saying no.

He added that Parliament is a government arm and shouldn’t be viewed as such (MDA).

The Finance Ministry shouldn’t treat Parliament as a Ministry or MDA. We are not part of MMDAS; this is a government arm. Some of our budgets have been cut by 50%. We should know if they want Parliament to sink.

“The Speaker isn’t ready to be blamed for Parliament’s incapacity to function due of finances.”
