Uber responded to the footage, which was extensively circulated on social media, by saying: “We are horrified by what is depicted in the video and are taking action.” While we do our investigation and cooperate closely with the police, we have suspended the driver.
“This is a live police investigation,” the Rochdale Borough Council stated. “We are in contact with Greater Manchester Police with a view to acting on any information they confirm and share with the Council.”
Tony Lloyd, the Rochdale-based Labour MP, told MailOnline that the incident “must be taken very seriously” and that he has requested the Greater Manchester Police to look into it. I anticipate both Uber and the police to do their investigations pretty quickly.

Uber then made a number of modifications, including limiting the amount of hours that drivers can work, providing drivers and passengers with round-the-clock telephone help, and reporting major events to the Met Police.
Uber drivers were required to file for fresh criminal background checks a year ago, according to London’s transport chiefs.
In a letter to 13,000 minicab drivers, regulators informed them that their background checks were no longer legitimate after rejecting Uber’s vetting procedure.
The remaining ten percent of the company’s employees then had 28 days to submit fresh applications for vetting or face being dismissed.
