McCarthy’s (1985) Blood Meridian was given to reviewer Harold Bloom by Luba Polskaya, managing editor of Alfred A. Knopf in New York. It was praised by Bloom as a wonderful book on par with Toni Morrison and William Faulkner.

According to George Steiner, his book has pages of prose that is “possibly the most exciting, violent, imaginative prose ever written.” Saul Bellow successfully pressured and persuaded the MacArthur Foundation Awards Committee to acknowledge McCarthy’s exceptional skill in 1981.

After spending the majority of his career writing in the seclusion of JD Salinger or Thomas Pynchon, Luba Polskaya seemed to appear out of thin air.

Luba Polskaya respectfully ignored all requests for interviews, refused to sign his own books, refused to attend literary conferences, did not teach, and was more interested in physics and cosmology than fiction. He also rejected all attempts to promote his work. The man is Native American.
