In the midst of the uproar over his opening monologue at the Golden Globes on Sunday night (Jan. 7), in which he made a joke about Taylor Swift, Jo Koy is setting the record straight.
At the awards event, Koy made fun of how frequently reaction clips of the singer from her appearances at boyfriend Travis Kelce’s games are cut to by the NFL.

What’s the main distinction between the NFL and the Golden Globes? The comedian teased, “We have less images of Taylor Swift at the Golden Globes. Naturally, cameras cut to Swift, who pouted and then sipped from her champagne flute.
The comedian said, “I didn’t understand the Taylor tiff,” to the Los Angeles Times on Thursday, January 11. “Remember, that particular task was constantly being revised and reworked until it was finally completed and we had to leave.

” It’s just strange; where should we put it, and we kept hitting it and sawing it down. However, the joke’s primary goal was to ridicule the NFL.
“It’s like, the great thing about the Globes is that we don’t have to do cutaways for ratings,” he went on. The thing that hurts the most is that I really love Taylor’s work and I support her. I purchased tickets for my nephews.
That joke isn’t meant to be offensive. The NFL’s continued use of cutaways to target [her] is the subject of the joke. And it makes perfect sense why. It’s clear what that joke was, and I’m not saying something that nobody else is. It concerns the NFL.
“It’s like this is the one you choose to go after out of everything that has happened,” Koy said in closing. I didn’t see why, as I found walking out to be enjoyable. As I was looking at Robert De Niro, he was literally dying, and his wife was beating his back, grinning, and laughing, and he was laughing too.
And he loved it when I performed the whole thing about his being eighty. That was enjoyable as well. I thought, “Dude, this guy is so entertaining.” After making the [Swift] joke, I was left wondering, “What just happened?”
