How many years did Charles White play in the NFL? In the United States of America, Charles White was born on January 22nd, 1958 in Los Angeles, California.

On January 11th, 2023, Charles White passed away in Newport Beach. After completing his studies at San Fernando High School in San Fernando, California, he competed in track and field and won the 330-yard low hurdles at the CIF California State Meet by defeating future Olympic gold medalist Andre Phillips.

While attending the University of Southern California, White played football for the USC Trojans. White received the W.J. Voit Memorial Trophy in 1978 for being the top Pacific Coast college football player.

In 1979, he received the UPI Player of the Year award, the Walter Camp Award, the Maxwell Award, and the Heisman Trophy. He is the second player (out of four overall) in the Rose Bowl to win Player of the Game honors twice (1979 and 1980).

In the first round of the 1980 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns chose White with the 27th overall pick. After four unimpressive seasons in Cleveland, when he carried the ball for a total of 942 yards while averaging 3.4 yards per carry, White was released prior to the 1985 season. Later, White acknowledged that he was struggling with a cocaine addiction at the time.

After leaving the Browns in 1985, he got in touch with John Robinson, his college coach, who was then the Los Angeles Rams coach. White spent four seasons playing for the Rams from 1985 to 1988. He amassed a league-best 1,387 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 1987, which earned him Pro Bowl and NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award nominations.

White finished his NFL career with 3,075 rushing yards and 23 rushing touchdowns in addition to 114 receptions for 860 yards and one receiving touchdown.

White started working as a computer consultant before he started coaching running backs at USC in 1993. In its third and fourth seasons, American Gladiators created unique “Pro Football Challenge of Champions” shows.

White competed in both and won them, recovering from a deficit in the “Eliminator” each time thanks to errors made by his opponents. Additionally, he competed in the sixth-season USC vs. Notre Dame alumni special, which he won and increased his record to 3-0.
