President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has asked African leaders to stop appealing for aid and start investing in the area. He asserted that will elevate the continent’s standing.
The Ghanaian president made the request on December 13 in Washington, DC, at the outset of the US-Africa Leaders’ Summit.

He chided his fellow leaders, saying, “If we stop being beggars and spend African money inside the continent, Africa will not need to ask for respect from anyone.”

“We’ll be treated with the respect we merit. Respect will come if we make it prosperous in the way it ought to be.

He added that Africans are more resilient, particularly outside the continent, and that this resilience may be used to help the continent function.

“Africans are tougher outside of Africa than inside. We must keep in mind that there is no such thing as Nigeria, Ghana, or Kenya to the outside world; we are just Africans. We are all responsible for each other’s fate as individuals.
