According to the Philadelphia Phillies organization, minor leaguer Corey Phelan passed away on Thursday after a battle with cancer. Twenty years old was him.

Phelan pitched last season for the Class-A Phillies and gave up one run in 9 2/3 innings, but he never again took the mound after being diagnosed.
The Phillies sent their condolences to Phelan’s family members.
“The untimely death of Corey Phelan leaves the Phillies family deeply grieved. Everyone in his vicinity was positively affected by Corey’s presence and selflessness, according to the statement. “Although he had a great deal of passion for baseball, his love for his family and his firm religion came first.
We offer our sincere sympathies to his family as well as to his team members and employees who stood by him and supported him emotionally over the duration of his valiant fight with cancer.
Throughout 2022, Phelan’s effect on the main league team stemmed from his time in the minor levels. Joe Girardi, the team’s former manager, welcomed Phelan into the clubhouse in May.
While on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Lehigh Valley later in the season, Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Brandon Marsh paid tribute to Phelan.
