The Armenian diplomatic corps met Army Chief of Staff Edward Asrian on Friday at Jermuk, the final scene of intense shelling.

Anush Apetyan, a 36-year-old mother of three, was reportedly apprehended alive in Jermuk before being raped, tortured, and maimed by Azerbaijani forces. They gouged out her eyes and stuck the severed finger in her mouth.
Asrian reminded the ambassadors that no country’s army, unit, or soldier has the authority to commit such atrocities. He described it as a significant violation of international humanitarian law and accused Azerbaijan of war crimes.

He promised that the Armenian Armed Forces will continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard the motherland’s military security.

During a briefing, the Army Chief of Staff stated that surveillance video revealed an Azerbaijani military detachment of 50 to 60 people withdrawing from northern Jermuk, Vayots Zor province.
According to him, only one Azerbaijani military squad remains in Jermuk, on a mountaintop 4.5 kilometers (about 2.7 miles) from the city, surrounded by Armenian troops.
“With other troops, they cannot reach the outskirts of Jermuk.” On the slope, there is only one group. In terms of survivability, if this hostile gang is not provided with food and water, they will run out of resources and have to flee the country within a few days.”Our detachment had surrounded the group,” Asirian explained to the diplomat.
He stated that the tactical situation in the area was stable and that the group will eventually leave.
“There will be no vehicles entering our area.” There are none at the moment. They will be unable to carry food or water, and having exhausted their supplies, this army will retire and rejoin their main unit on the outskirts of Jermuk.”
Asirian added, shortly after midnight on Tuesday, the Armenian army initiated countermeasures in response to the Azerbaijani offensive. Several sites, however, were lost due to what he referred to as “advantage of enemy forces.” These are the bases of the Azerbaijani army, he claims, allowing hundreds of troops to enter deep inside Armenia’s military zone.
Azerbaijani troops advanced 11 to 12 kilometers (6 to 7 miles) into Armenian territory during nearly 48 hours of warfare, he claimed. According to Asriyan, the region has not reduced to 4.5 kilometers (2.7 miles), implying that the Armenian army is capable of retaking them.
Members of Armenia’s diplomatic corps visited Jermuk this year and inspected some of the most extensively fought-over locations. They saw firsthand the extent of the destruction to citizens and community buildings.
