Tyre Nichols Parents; Federal investigators said on Wednesday that a civil rights investigation into the death of a 29-year-old man who died three days after being stopped by Memphis police had been started.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI Memphis Field Office, and the Justice Department’s civil rights division all indicated that they were looking into the officers involved in the traffic stop that led to Tyre Nichols being brought to a hospital in critical condition.

The Memphis Police Department and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are the main sources for the few details that are known about what happened during the stop on January 7 and how Nichols was harmed.

Tyre Nichols’ family revealed to reporters four days after his passing that they had been denied access to him the evening Memphis Police Department officers went up at his parents’ door to inform them he had been hospitalized.

The family addressed the public for the first time during the balloon release on Saturday afternoon in memory of Nichols.
