On Monday, December 5, 2022, the children of EMMY Award–winning actress Kirstie Alley announced her passing.

The actress and comedian passed away after a brief fight with cancer, shocking many of her friends and admirers.

Kristie Alley made her acting debut in the popular NBC sitcom Cheers as Rebecca Howe.

In NBC’s “must-see TV” schedule on most Thursday nights from the late 1980s through the early 1990s, Alley could be seen on Cheers.

One of the most famous characters in the annals of early comedy history was played by her as a cool-girl-turned-neurotic bartender who fell in and out of love with numerous bar clients, Boston billionaires, and the bar’s manager, Sam.

In 1991, she won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her work on Cheers.

Kirstie Alley died of cancer, which her family confirmed was a recently found health issue for the actress.

Kirstie Alley was 71 years old when she died.

She was seeking medical treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, at the time of her death.

Her children, True and Lillie Parker, posted the following statement to Alley’s Instagram: “We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,”

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead,” the statement continued.

“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
